You might have noticed that during the the latter hours of the evening yesterday the App Catalog became unavailable. We now know the reason for that. Other then the fact that three apps saw an update (a trio of PicHunt apps from EpicTilt), the App Catalog lost two apps.
The first was the FriendsFlow app. The reason why it was pulled stems from the fact that Facebook recently changed the way Facebook works and thus breaking the application. However the developer is working on a fix and it should be back shortly.
The second app to be pulled was the BlockDrop app, a Tetris variant that had graduated from the homebrew crowd into the official App Catalog. So far there is no word as to why it was pulled but we are hearing speculation that it might be because Tetris has already released a demo app and is planning on an official version for a later release on the App Catalog. Couple that with the fact that the App Store from iTunes had a similar issue and it might shed light as to why it was pulled. At any rate its just speculation and no official word has been released on it.
Bell customers, you can now get your Exchange 2007 issues resolved as well as iTunes 9 sync. Yep if you happen to be north of the border (of the U.S) check the update on your Pre as it is now live.
Well what’d you know, Palm has garnered itself a nice award from the boys at PopularMechanics. That’s right, the Pre has been ranked among the “Most Brilliant Products of 2009.” It is one of the only two gadgets to make the list. BTW if you don’t read PopularMechanics you should pick yourself up a subscription.
The Palm Pre (which costs $200 with a contract from Sprint) doesn’t break ground with any one engineering advance. Instead, it sets a new standard by putting all the best available technologies together. Most cellphones—even high-end ones—excel at some tasks, while utterly ignoring others. The Palm Pre’s features read like a gadget geek’s wish list: optional inductive charging, a full keyboard, the ability to sync with iTunes—and it can run multiple applications at once. Sometimes more is more.
So if you haven’t gotten a Pre yet, this might be another reason to get one.

Well that was quick, just a few days after the release of webOS 1.2.0 Palm has issued a new update to address to important problems. The first involves Exchange mail syncing (as webOS 1.2.0 rendered it useless), and the second fixes that problem called iTunes syncing.
If you’re new to the party, Apple and Palm have been playing cat and mouse concerning the iTunes syncing which Apple claims is illegal because it tricks the software. So far the MO of Apple has been to release an update to iTunes which breaks the sync, and a few weeks later Palm sends out a patch to webOS that brings syncing back. Well Palm has done just that again. So those iTunes users, rejoice, syncing of your Pre to your iTunes software is possible again.
Since USB-IF has gotten pissed at Palm, said company basically isn’t getting help from them, on the other hand there’s nothing much they can do so we’ll have to wait and see what the next major move is in this chess game.

Well its finally here. After waiting weeks for the update its here and not only does webOS 1.2 come with a bunch of new features, it also takes the App Catalog out of beta. This means that payed apps are coming.
Among the feature updates include improved copy, paste functions of non-editable text. You also get the option to download files from the browser (meaning you’ll be able to download our weekly Wallpaper digest on the fly). You can also purchase songs from the Amazon app via EV-DO and not just Wi-Fi.
Unfortunately iTunes sync is not back which means USB mode is your friend…at least for now. If you haven’t done so already go ahead and download the update.

To be honest I have no interest in this news, but it does affect every Pre owner so I shall cover it. You might remember that Palm and Apple has been in a tug of war ever since the Pre was announced regarding the Pre’s tricking iTunes into thinking it was an iPod.
Personally I couldn’t care less as I do not use iTunes to do anything other then download NCIS and Gossip Girl episodes I missed. But we’re hearing that USB-IF has responded to both companies and so far it doesn’t look like they’re happy with Palm. Want the full details? Check out the full details from ENGADGET!

We need to clear something up. Even though iTunes 9 has broken the special syncing rights that Palm had with their Pre, you can still sync the Pre with iTunes. That said, yesterday Jobs (back in all his glory) unveiled the latest version of the #1 music store worldwide. To be expected this brought an end to the Pre tricking iTunes into thinking it was an iPod.
That said, if you’re interested in keeping those syncing rights for now (until Palm inevitably breaks them), do not upgrade to iTunes 9. Good day to you.

webOS 1.1.0 update
So earlier today we talked a bit about some of the new features that made it to webOS 1.1.0. Well after testing it out for quite some time now we are gonna give you a better idea of what exactly the update fixed.
The first and probably most talked about (and controversial) feature of the new update is iTunes syncing. Yes just a few days after Apple killed the feature, Palm has defied their efforts and brought back the feature. All we have to say is Palm got balls.

Well its finally here. The long rumored update that was supposed to be released this week did come. Among the updates include a new NFL app (which we will review at a later date), as well as the ability to email notes and a few other minor security updates. You will also find that iTunes syncing is back so that’s a plus. Check out a few of the new updates in the gallery below. And if you have not already done so, update your phone OST.

iTunes 8.2.1 update
Its not like Apple hadn’t hinted at this for some time now, and of course Palm was aware that this would probably be the case, but so fast? Well Pre fans, its true, if you update to iTunes 8.2.1, your Pre will no longer be able to trick Apple’s iTunes into thinking its an iPod.
That said please be aware this doesn’t mean you cannot load music from the iTunes store onto your Pre (albeit its DRM free), all this means is you will have to do it the USB way which includes going into My Computer and etc….
Personally I never used the feature so I couldn’t care less, not because iTunes isn’t good, but mainly because you cannot install the bloody thing without hitching Safari and QuickTime to your system.
As to the course of action from now on, we wouldn’t be surprised if the next major update to webOS doesn’t fix this problem. We’ll just have to wait and see.
