The graphic is pretty self explanatory so we’ll be brief in our explanation. But we would just like to point out two things. First of all BillShrink fails to mention Sprint’s “Everything Mobile” plan which is an industry first and a lot better then any of the offerings from T-Mobile. Secondly, they fail to mention that T-Mobile still has the least 3G coverage. Other then that, the graphic is pretty accurate. Check it out.
We’ll make this short and sweet. No I will not tell you who won, but the results might surprise you. All I have to say is this just shows that whichever option you go with you are having one heck of a phone. Of course I would expect you to go with the Pre, but you be the judge. Its not everyday you find a big blogger in the gadget world willing to acknowledge some major faults with an Apple product. But today, Joshua Topolsky (Senior Editor at Engadget.com) has made a very good case why the iPhone fails miserably at anything other then lifestyle, game and other non-productivity apps.
Don’t get me wrong, Apple has a nice design and nailed a few things Palm is yet to do on the Pre (mainly battery life, speed and multimedia). But in some of the basic features it still fails miserably. I won’t spoil it for you but head over to Engadget.com and read the entire article. BTW Josh is an iPhone 3GS owner (and he acknowledges it in the article).
Don’t you just love the hacking community? This latest bit of news comes from ZodTTDwho has been successful in actually getting a PlayStation emulator running on the Pre. What’s more interesting is the fact that it beats the performance of the iPhone. We always knew that both the 3GS and the Pre shared similar internals, but here is the first real proof that its only because of webOS why the Pre lags at certain things. Check out the video of the hack below.
You know Palm, we would be very pleased if you wouldn’t be such an ass and actually give us some numbers to boast to our iPhone 3GS friends to prove that the Pre can hold its own. That said, according to some numbers put together by analysts and posted by Eric Savitz on Barrons.com, Palm was able to move a magical number of 300k devices in June.
Of course these numbers pale in comparison to the 1 million iPhone 3GS moved on June 6th,but it does prove that Palm is able to hold its own. While we’re not gonna say the stats here are 100% accurate it is nice to see someone isn’t afraid of opening their mouth, eh Palm?
Thanks to our friends over at PreCentral who made this video. While funny it does say something about why the Pre totally beats the iPhone at its game. Check out the video below.
Looks like Adobe has just let the cat out of the bag. According to a slide from the companies Q2 Fiscal Year 2009 earnings presentation, Flash 10 beta will make its way to Palm devices (Pre) as well as other smartphones starting this October. This is all part of Adobe’s Open Screen Project. Those included in the Flash 10 beta roll out include Nokia, Google, Microsoft and yes Palm.
You’re probably wondering the same thing as I am. Where the hell is RIM and Apple on that list? Don’t tell me that the Storm and iPhone 3GS are not worthy of Flash….or are they? At any rate, glad to see that some serious work is being done on the Flash mobile front by Adobe.
While this is not a big surprise it is nice to see Sprint taking the offensive here. Sprint has just thrown the first punch in a war that is bound to heat up pretty quickly between not only them and AT&T but also Apple and Palm.
That said the image above first appeard on Sprint’s Facebook profile and is now making its rounds around the net. According to Sprint:
You can have a mighty fancy phone, but it’s only as good as the network it uses and the calling plans available to consumers. Look past the iHype and we think you’ll see a new Sprint with a strong network, appealing new phones and value-priced calling plans. We’ll keep striving to get even better, but we sure hope folks – especially those with contracts elsewhere expiring soon – will give Sprint a look.
They go on to say that the Palm Pre will save you $1200 over the life of a two-year contract. That is comparing their Simply Everything to AT&T’s Everything plan. So what are your thoughts? Bold move or not?
Just in case you thought that the first comparison videos we discussed yesterday might be a little scewed in the iPhone’s 3GS favor, we have new chart data from AnandTech that even though the iPhone 3GS and Palm Pre share almost identical internal specs, the 3GS is still faster by 21% then the Pre.
What this tells us is that its not really a problem with the Pre’s hardware but rather the software. We still have to hand it to Palm though, with webOS only in its first generation, they really nailed many aspects and the few number differences between the Pre and iPhone isn’t going to hurt most people.
