Palm’s Ares SDK goes public beta live
Developing for Palm’s webOS platform is easy enough right? Just HTML, JavaScript and you’re done. However that has still stumped a lot of would be developers from getting their apps into the App Catalog and Palm has taken that to heart. Being the new player in the App Market world Palm is using some very big power moves to bring developers over to its camp and this latest one seems to be very promising.
If the Mojo SDK was too daunting for you to try, maybe a simple drag drop UI (interface) might do the trick. Palm is hoping so and has released the Ares SDK into public beta. The Ares SDK will not replace the Mojo SDK but it can be used instead of the Mojo SDK and is great for those who want to create simple arpps or would are just gettign started in App Development.
The major difference with Ares and Mojo is the programming language used. Ares uses mostly JavaScript, whereas Mojo is centered around HTML. You cannot import Mojo projects into Ares but we’re not sure if the reverse is true. You can however carry code snippets from Mojo to Ares to be used.
As said before the Ares SDK is currently in public beta and requires you to register with the Palm Developer network in order to use it. It’s completely web based so no downloading of files needed and you can upload graphics and other things to the web for use in your application if you’d like.
