VIDEO: Meet the Gesture Cube
Granted it’s a proof of concept, however that doesn’t mean that the interface is like totally awesome (and useless we might add). The Gesture Cube incorporates gesture sensors that will interpret hands movements in order to control the device. More importantly, it has four different sides (as you can see from the video) and has some awesome effects.
Check out the video below for an idea of how this thing works.

Palm’s CEO Jon Rubinstein crowned “Geek of the Year”
Thing’s can’t get much better when you’ve brought a company back from the brink of oblivion to compete against the major players in the industry, when you’ve cut losses in half in less then a year, gotten the likes of Bono to fund your project and not to mention the love of most of the tech world.
But if that wasn’t enough, Jon Rubinstein has gotten something else to boast about in his upcoming CES keynote. Said CEO of Palm has just been crowned among the Geek Kings. Just a note however, this is for last year and at such doesn’t reflect this year, but Fast Company (the guys responsible for giving Jon the title, had this to say:
“He came on board as the new chairman of Palm and brought about the Web OS and the Palm Pre, the start of a line of products that is the best hope for reintroducing the geek masses to Palm.”
You can expect that Mr. Jobs will be making note of this as he doesn’t appear on the list, although J.J Abrams and Mark Zuckerberg (creator of Facebook) does.

TatSkinz Design Contest
Creativity is a wonderful thing, and for those who have a creative mind we have something you might be interested in. TatSkinz, the maker of protective body art for the Palm Pre as well as other devices, is holding a contest where they’re asking participants to come up with a unique creative and fresh design and the opportunity to receive a $1,000 school scholarship or Mac computer. More importantly your design could be chosen for the entire world to see (meaning it could be turned into the next TatSkinz). Check out the full press release below.
WIN APPLE COMPUTER OR $1,000 SCHOLARSHIP THROUGH TATSKINZ DESIGN CONTEST
Winning Entry Will Be Produced for Sale, Submit Through November
DRAPER, UT – (October, 2009) – NLU Products, maker of TatSkinz protective body art for electronic devices, will hold its first-ever iPod cover design contest throughout October, providing artists and technology aficionados the opportunity to turn their personal artwork into the next TatSkinz. One winning creative genius will see his or her “tat” incorporated into the TatSkinz line-up and win either a $1000 scholarship or 13” MacBook. In addition to popular vote from online visitors to the site, several prominent technology and design reviewers will serve as guest judges for the contest, ultimately deciding on the winning design.
TatSkinz offers complete scratch and scuff protection for several Apple devices, while adding personality in a range of colorful designs, giving custom-cut attitude to each gadget. Incorporating a special, repositionable adhesive, TatSkinz uses an air-release technology that prevents bubbles from forming below the film. The skin can be applied directly to the device, or ideally, on top of NLU Products’ BodyGuardz scratch-proof transparent skin for maximum protection.
“This is a unique opportunity to turn someone’s imaginative work into the next TatSkinz design and at the same time support creativity and the arts,” said Kirk Feller, president of NLU Products. “We always want to hear our customers’ feedback and this will offer them the chance to show us exactly what designs they want to see.”
Contest participants should submit designs at TatSkinz.com/contest beginning October 1; submissions will be accepted through the entire month of November. Voters can go to this site and pick their favorite entry, and NLU Products will use the popular vote to determine the front-runners for the judges’ consideration; the judges panel includes:

POLL: Would you like us to cover news unrelated to Palm, Pre Pixi etc?
To be honest I never expected the popularity of this site to climb so drastically in the past few weeks. When I started it back in January, it was because I was excited about the Pre and noticed there were not many sites covering news on the device.
That said for the past few weeks we’ve been mulling expanding the niche of the site, but before we do we’d like to hear from you the readers. We would still cover news related to Palm, Pre, Pixi, Treo Pro etc. but we would cover other stuff like new cell phones, gadgets, reviews, software etc.
So please let us know in the poll below (as well as the comments). Based on poll and comment response we’ll make a decision by weekend.
At any rate we’re we’re working on a new template for the site which will be completed by weekend. So please forgive us if you experience a few technical difficulties this week.
How much does a Palm Pre save you?
Its no myth that smartphones are expensive to own. But how much does it truly cost to own one, or more importantly how much can you save if you own a Pre? Want to know the answer? PC World did an excellent chart you can check out above as well as the read link below that provides all the details. You’d be surprised at the results.
Nokia looking to buy Palm?
I’m not a person who is giving to gossip and rumors, especially ones that cannot be traced to a specific credible source. That said I went against my better judgement and decided to cover the story that is making its rounds. Apparently someone has got wind (somewhere in Europe) that Finnish cellphone giant Nokia is mulling a deal to purchase Palm.
How this would work I’m not sure, but seeing both companies have been in financial blackholes recently it would look like a wise move on the part of Nokia….not so much Palm as they have spent quite a bit of time with webOS and if there is one thing we’ve learned, when bigger companies swallow smaller companies things don’t always work out.
That said if you want to check out the details on this wild story, check it out HERE!
