The new features of webOS 1.1.0
So earlier today we talked a bit about some of the new features that made it to webOS 1.1.0. Well after testing it out for quite some time now we are gonna give you a better idea of what exactly the update fixed.
The first and probably most talked about (and controversial) feature of the new update is iTunes syncing. Yes just a few days after Apple killed the feature, Palm has defied their efforts and brought back the feature. All we have to say is Palm got balls.
Other features include the ability to email notes. This compensates for the lack of a true productivity suite (that is coming BTW). The “screenshots” album has been named to “Screen Captures” (click here to find out how to do a screen capture). The notifications sound has been changed as well as more fluid animations and pictures slide in from the right when you open up the photo album app.
The browser has also gotten a new font which we have to say its kind of neat and makes reading text a bit more bearable on the small screen. You can also double tap to start text selection, but that feature is a bit buggy at the moment. AIM has also gotten a new icon and the app store has been increased by one app…a new NFL app. Being a fan of all things football I have to say this is a real treat and right in time for football season (full review of this app coming later).
There is also better auto complete options and the JavaScript interpreter Performance has been increased. This will yield faster load times of apps and better overall system performance. In our general use we did notice slightly faster and smoother performance, but nothing real noticeable. Last but not least you can turn the screen on by pressing the center button (before you had to press a key or the on/off button).
There are other minor improvements but most of them relate to security and such. For now we have noticed a few bugs like Google Maps not working properly and the Memo app cursor having issues. But other then that everything seems to be just fine (except for some homebrew apps which are broken).
So what do you think of the update? Let us know in the comments below.
