Palm Pre running Doom

Palm Pre running Doom

If there has been one thing that has been in question about the Pre for some time now, it is its gaming abilities. Don’t get us wrong though, the Pre is more then able to run the type of games seen on the iPhone. What is not sure however is if Palm would allow developers to tap into the resources needed (such as direct access to the CPU and RAM).

But after taking a look at the video below, we are quite sure that even if they never allow it to happen someone will find a way. A guy who goes by the name of Sargun has actually ported Doom to the Pre. After rebuilding an opensource version of the game to use the DirectFB graphics library he got it working pretty easily and according to Sargun, “actually fairly trivial.” Of course that depends on if you know what you are doing, and since there are no binaries available for the processes at this time it might take a little while before everyone is able to do it. But who said it couldn’t be cool? Check out the video after the break.
